A Higher Winter Water Bill With No Obvious Change
Murtek · Fictional learning case
Source organizations: U.S. government.
Case overview
June Navarro opens the winter water bill twice because the first number cannot be right. Eli Navarro looks over her shoulder and starts naming the usual suspects: visitors, extra laundry, holiday cooking. None of them feels big enough. Their home has been quiet since the new year, which makes the number harder to explain, not easier. June pulls out last winter’s statement and circles the difference. Eli starts a list of what changed, then crosses most of it out. They agree to pay attention through one ordinary evening before deciding what the bill is trying to tell them. The case begins with a household arguing about a number and learning that the most useful clue may be the thing no one thought was worth mentioning.
